Supporting Liverpool’s data-driven response to the Covid-19 pandemic

The Covid pandemic has highlighted the importance of ready access to accurate data and Liverpool City Council has benefited from a solution that was already in place.

Working with Sentinel since 2017, the council has used Sentinel’s Data Hub as the data integration and data sharing platform for its Liverpool Families Programme.

Providing a single view of individuals and family groups, the Hub integrated data from more than 30 different sources, enabling the council to identify families that met programme criteria.

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the council recognised how the Hub could be used to help it target support by identifying those who were most vulnerable.

As a result, it was extended to include health-related information from more than 12 new data sources – including nine direct from the NHS.

Sentinel’s team quickly set up new data matching rules and functionality, including filterable views relating to Covid susceptibility as well as the ability to extract relevant information to feed back to key health partners.

The depth of understanding provided has enabled the council and its partners to continually direct resources to where they have been needed most.

In addition, the Data Hub has contributed to Liverpool’s success in reducing the spread of Covid-19. This was achieved by using it to bring together NHS data and information from Council Tax records to form a single dataset for the Test and Trace team to access.

Data provided by the Hub has also been used to steer Liverpool’s mobile vaccination bus by helping to identify vulnerable individuals who haven’t yet been vaccinated.

“Whilst the Hub was originally installed to help identify families in need of support, it’s application has been much broader. We’re delighted that it has proved its versatility and been able to make a difference at such a critical time,” said Sentinel Partners director, Graham McCusker.
