Targeting recruitment to Liverpool’s infamous gangs

A clearer picture of Liverpool’s notorious gangs has enabled city council teams to focus on preventing more young people getting involved.

The city’s organised criminal gangs play a major role in the UK underworld and the trade in illegal firearms and drugs outside London.

By feeding information on gang membership and crime into its existing Data Hub solution the city council has been able to profile their composition and improve understanding.

Drawing on the family information already contained in the Hub, teams have identified close connections to existing gang members, such as younger siblings, who are at risk of being drawn in.

This has provided a valuable perspective in targeting intervention and support for families across the city.

“Our Hub has helped the city council to learn more about the composition of gangs and begin to take pre-emptive action, having identified those who are particularly vulnerable,” said Sentinel Partners director, Graham McCusker.
